A proposed partnership between sgit.ai and DigitalOcean

DigitalOcean is the shortest path from "I want to try vaults" to a running server. Spaces is S3-compatible object storage with a built-in CDN, App Platform runs a container, and the DigitalOcean Marketplace explicitly invites open-source projects as 1-Click Apps. For the developers and small teams DigitalOcean serves, a one-click vault server is exactly the right size.

Nothing on this page is confidential, and there has been no conversation yet. Every statement about DigitalOcean comes from its own public pages, linked. Every statement about sgit points at the deployment documentation, a published vault or a page on this site. sgit is Apache-2.0, so DigitalOcean does not need our permission to run it or to build on it. A partnership is about doing that well and together. The general argument is on the cloud platforms page.

In short

How vaults map onto DigitalOcean

sgit needsOn DigitalOceanStatus
A small stateless APIApp Platform, or a Droplet with DockerShould work: one container. Not tested by us.
Object storageSpaces (S3-compatible)Should work once the S3 endpoint is configurable. Not tested.

Where we are with DigitalOcean today

We have not deployed on DigitalOcean yet. It is on this list because it is the platform where a developer is most likely to try something like sgit on a Saturday afternoon, and a 1-Click App is the fastest way to let them.

What a partnership could be

ShapeWhat it would beOn their side
1 · A 1-Click AppThe vault server as a DigitalOcean Marketplace 1-Click App, with Spaces for storage. The Marketplace vendor team.
2 · A tutorialA community tutorial: your own encrypted vault server in ten minutes.DigitalOcean's community content team.

What we are asking DigitalOcean for

  1. Help publishing a 1-Click App in the DigitalOcean Marketplace.
  2. A test account to verify Spaces with the server.
  3. An introduction through DigitalOcean Startups or DigitalOcean Partners.
